Departing on 29 July 2017, Emerald Waterways’ LGBT Danube Explorer river cruise will become the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender river cruise operated by a UK line. The seven-night cruise will journey from Hungary’s vibrant capital, Budapest, through Slovakia and Austria, before visiting some of Germany’s most enigmatic towns and cities.
With all transfers, tips and meals included in the inclusive price as well as a comprehensive drinks package and return flights from selected UK airports; the river cruise is the first of its type to offer the LGBT community the opportunity to explore the very best of the Danube in luxurious surroundings.
Starting at £1,695 per person, guests on-board the LGBT Danube Explorer are transported straight to the heart of the continent, taking in powerful capital cities and influential regions. With a backdrop switching between beautiful countryside and medieval towns, the cruise’s guests will be able to witness how central Europe evolved over a few hundred years.
Combining a series of LGBT-focussed activities as well as historical and cultural explorations, the journey is intended to captivate, enrich and entertain all guests. Six shore excursions, three visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, two unique EmeraldPLUS experiences and two amazing EmeraldACTIVE tours are included in the LGBT Danube Explorer package.
A selection of Discover More excursions are also provided as optional extras at an additional charge during the cruise as well, providing truly unique experiences in the majestic cities of the Danube.
Highlights of the LGBT Danube Explorer
The Emerald Waterways journey planners are dedicated to providing unique and enriching itineraries for their guests. Here are just a few of the highlights that we’re particularly excited about in the Emerald Waterways camp.
On-Board Radio Broadcast – We’ve teamed up with one of the UK’s largest LGBT media platforms, Gaydio, for the river cruise, and their breakfast show hosts, Chris Holliday and Emma Goswell, will be broadcasting their show live from the ship for three days. There’ll be plenty of chances to have a good chat with the lovely Chris and Emma during their three days on-board, and they might even let some of you loose behind the mic (although we can’t make any promises).
Afternoon Tea with a Slovakian Family – During the river cruise’s stop in the Slovakian capital, Bratislava, guests will get the chance to head onto land and enjoy a truly authentic slice of local life. Emerald Waterways have arranged for local families to open their doors to the river cruise passengers and prepare an authentic Slovakian afternoon tea for their guests. You’ll get the chance to chat to your hosts about life in Bratislava, and maybe even pick up a few cooking tips along the way.
Exclusive Viennese Concert – Few cities in the world have quite the classical music calibre boasted by Vienna, so taking in an exclusive concert with live performances of Mozart and Strauss’ greatest works is a fitting way to spend your time in the city. As one of the Discover More excursions, the Viennese concert is a paid-for alternative to the inclusive walking tour of Vienna, but for music fans, this promises to be worth the extra.
A Guided Bike Tour – The stretches alongside the waters of the Danube are commonly regarded as the most picturesque and rewarding of all Europe’s cycle paths. And guests on-board the LGBT Danube Explorer are treated to a guided bike tour on the banks of the river. This is just one of two EmeraldACTIVE trips included as part of the package.
Opening Night Cruising – The first night of any river cruise is always special, but on-board the LGBT Danube Explorer, it is just that bit extra special. Your first night on the cruise gives you a chance to meet your fellow guests during a traditional Hungarian welcome dinner whilst the ship passes under the ornate bridges of Budapest. Authentic Hungarian folk music and dances complete the night’s entertainment, a great chance to break the ice with your week-long neighbours.
Exploring a new city every day of the river cruise, and with a host of unforgettable activities and entertainment to enjoy on-board the ship, there’s never a lowlight on the LGBT Danube Explorer, the UK’s first LGBT river cruise.
Europe-Wide Exploration with Emerald Waterways
The Danube is not the only European river the Emerald Waterways fleet navigates. Guests can explore the mighty Rhine, the peaceful Rhône and the beautiful Douro amongst others on-board an Emerald Waterways Star-Ship, with all itineraries taking you to the very heart of the regions visited. With river cruises running from March until November, Emerald Waterways provide, perhaps, the most beautiful and rewarding way to explore the delightful stretches of the continent in absolute luxury.
Each cruise is rich with local entertainment, delightful dining options and plentiful excursion opportunities, ensuring ever day at sea is one you’ll remember for a lifetime.
